kopps rd car park

It’s not all roller coasters and waterslides! Theme parks have plenty of ‘boring’ infrastructure too.

To support an expansion of entertainment offerings at Village Roadshow Theme Parks, the need for additional car parking capacity was identified. Theme parks are unique in that car parking must be totally sufficient for even the busiest day. It is considered a disaster if an intending guest is turned away for lack of parking capacity.

The first step was a survey of existing parking on site, and the development of a strategy to consolidate and improve efficiency.

I then worked with Engineers, Urban Planners and Environmental Lawyers to help develop a DA package, for an overflow car park on a site owned by the company adjacent to Movie World.

Challenges included flooding issues, an awkward shape, existing electricity grid infrastructure, traffic and pedestrian movement across Kopps Rd, and the need for sensitive landscaping and fenceline treatments, given the proximity of neighbours.

After negotiation with the council, the car park received final approval in 2019.
