mandai bird paradise
mandai zoo - singapore
This project was a good opportunity to learn the know-how behind a ubiquitous feature in many themed attractions; artifictial rockwork.
In the case of the new Mandai Bird Paradise, this included rockwork for the entry area and penguin exhibit.
The project introduced me to the design and fabrication process for this side of the business.
A physical clay model of rockwork was 3D scanned. This then generates a 3D digital mesh that could be “Cut up” into panels, with steel framing designed to suit. Shop drawings were then created for each panel.
The prefabricated rockwork system overall aimed to reduce material requirements and reduce installation time, and minimise time occupying the site. It also allows for better quality, given the rockwork is being produced in an indoor factoy setting.
